CKUT’s annual funding drive is currently under way. Please consider pledging a few dollars to my radio show, The Kitchen Bang Bang Law. It happens on Tuesday, October 26, from 12 to 2 p.m.
I’ve been doing campus and community radio since 1985, and I’ve been on-air at CKUT since 1995. This year I’ve also been the volunteer music department rep on CKUT’s steering committee, seeing first hand every week the hard work the volunteers and staff at CKUT do to bring alternative radio to Montreal and environs (via the airwaves) and beyond, to the world at large (via the internet).
I’ve always been proud to be part of a community that isn’t about making a profit. Instead, CKUT FM is about consciousness-raising, 24/7, 365 days a year. Myriad shows bring you new and exciting music from Montreal’s great scene, from across the country and around the world. CKUT’s also got amazing news and information you won’t hear anywhere else – on the topic of social justice, human rights, environmental activism, gender equality, you name it. We do it all on a shoestring budget, so when we come calling for your help during our funding drive, you know we really need it.
The Kitchen Bang Bang Law is about cutting-edge culture. It’s about dreaming beyond the barriers of cynical ‘common sense’ through radical sonic art forms, be they the working blues of the 20s or the avante garde drone of today. I feed the listeners’ imagination with mind-blowing sounds and guests making their mark in the arts, whether locally, nationally or globally. This past year, I’ve talked to dancer Tammy Forsythe, activist Stefan Christoff, poets and writers like Ian Ferrier, Moe Clark, Atif Siddiqi, Lady Katalyst, Alessandra Naccarato, Jeff Miller, Kaie Kellough and Jason Selman, and musicians like Rainer Weins, Josh Zubot, Jean Derome, Gordon Allen, gmackrr, Freida Abtan, Kyra Shaughnessy, Yan Basque and Tom Keenan.
I’ve got some great vinyl treasures to offer listeners, gifts unavailable on any other show during the funding drive. There’ll be my usual eclectic musical selections, and a live in-studio performance. So tune in to the Kitchen Bang Bang Law on Tuesday, noon until 2 pm. It’s at 90.3 FM on the dial, or you can catch it streaming live at ckut.ca. And please consider pledging some cash during my funding drive radio show. Call the PLEDGE LINE, 514-907-9424, and talk to the friendly people at CKUT.
OR consider pre-pledging on-line. Go to https://secure.ckut.ca/fddb/donors/new and click on ‘make a pledge.’ Major credit cards and Paypal accounts are accepted.
